Vision Statement
In the 21st century, it has become increasingly difficult for activists, journalists, and opposition leaders to freely carry out their activities to improve democratic governance and protect human rights, especially in countries without well-established human rights support systems. The Democracy Advocates at Risk (DAR) program aims to create a safe environment for DARs by helping them avoid harassment and persecution so that they can continue their mission in the Indo-Pacific region. In doing so, we aim to help protect civil liberties and address challenges to democracy in the region.
Mission Statement
As a network of like-minded scholars, NGOs, and foundations in the Indo-Pacific region, the DAR program provides support for DARs facing harassment and persecution for their pro-democracy activities to be hosted by our partners for a period of time. This allows targeted DARs to continue their work, acquire new skills, and expand their knowledge while remaining close to their home countries.
