On August 5th, 2024, Infobae published an article authored by Sascha Hannig Nuñez, a student in the Doctoral Program of the Graduate School of Law, entitled “The Alliance that Challenges China’s Influence − The Inter-Parliamentary Alliance on China (IPAC) in its Policy against Potential Authoritarian Influence.” In this article, Ms. Hannig discusses the current situation in Latin America, where China is exerting political pressure in all areas, including investment, economic dependence, support for dictatorships, corruption, and human rights violations, and explains how IPAC is raising awareness of the issues and taking various initiatives to counter this. She argues that Latin American parliamentary members working together to promote measures without succumbing to pressure from authoritarian countries such as China would be an opportunity to make the issues they have with authoritarian countries more visible and to promote specific public policies to mitigate their negative effects.
