About the speakers:

 

Professor Olga Lomova

Olga Lomová is professor of Chinese literature and culture and teaches at the Department of Sinology at Charles University in Prague. She is a member of the “Asian History and Culture” PhD program committee (till 2022 she was its director), and the director of the CCKF International Sinological Center. She is also involved with the Faculty of Arts trans-disciplinary research platform “Center for the Study of Strategic Regions”. Since 2018 she is member of the International Advisory Board to a German Inter-University project “Leibniz ScienceCampus »Eastern Europe – Global Area«”, and academic advisor to the Tsing-hua University (Taiwan) “Research Centre for Literary Thoughts and Discourses.”

She is the member of the board and advisor of the Sinopsis project dedicated to China in the current geopolitical context. Occasionally she also provides expertise for Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Czech Parliament, and other institutions in the Czech Republic.

In her teaching and research, besides Chinese literature (ancient and modern), she is interested in the intellectual transformation of China in the 20th century, in the conceptualization and history of China studies globally, and in PRC ideology and its impact on domestic and international politics. On these topics, she has published books in Czech language and numerous research articles in Czech and English. She also regularly contributes to Czech media writing about Chinese politics and Czech -Chinese relations.

 

Dr. Martin Hála

Martin Hala (Ph.D.) is the founder and director of Sinopsis.cz <http://sinopsis.cz/> , a China-focused research project based in Prague, Czech Republic. He is also a researcher and lecturer at the Department of Chinese Studies, Charles University,Prague. Educated in Prague, Shanghai, Berkeley and Harvard, he has taught at Universities in Prague, Bratislava and Lisbon, and led projects in various countries in Asia. Prior to founding Sinopsis, he was the Regional Manager for Asia Pacific at the Open Society Foundations.

 

M.A. Katerina Procházková

Kateřina Procházková is an analyst at the Sinopsis. She previously worked as an editor of the foreign editorial office of Czech Television and a correspondent for Czech Radio in Asia. She lived in Asia for about ten years, in Hong Kong, Taipei and Beijing. She studied journalism at the University of Ostrava and the University of Glasgow. She acquired language skills at the National Taiwan University (NTU) in Taipei, Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) and Sophia University in Tokyo. She is also a member of the Foreign Correspondent Club and Beijing International Society.
