On April 24, 2024, the Institute for Global Governance Research (GGR) at Hitotsubashi University held the 27th GGR Brown Bag Lunch Seminar titled “The COVID-19 Fight in Wuhan.”

Participants first discussed the situation before the pandemic, where the large population and Wuhan’s role as a transportation hub, combined with the timing of the Lunar New Year and snowstorm conditions, increased the difficulties in fighting COVID-19. They then talked about how to protect lives from the virus, ensure the availability of daily necessities and supply chains, and maintain regular infrastructure functions during the pandemic. Discussions on epidemic prevention included testing, patient classification, medical care, and international cooperation. For securing supply chains, the conversation focused on production prioritization, transport facilitation, and attention to delivery. Opinions on maintaining infrastructure centered on public support, and volunteers’ assistance. Finally, there was a discussion about the post-COVID era change, including the daily life trend online.
