The role of ICC

In September 2024, an article by Professor Hitomi Takemura(Graduate School of Law, Hitotsubashi University), “The Role of the ICC,” was published in Hogaku Kyoshitsu (No.528). This article starts by providing an overview of the philosophy and reality of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and then examines the ICC itself, focusing on the effectiveness and significance of its arrest warrants. In conclusion, Professor Takemura argues that the significance of the ICC’s existence and its effectiveness in ending armed conflict should be discussed separately, and that it is necessary to examine its role based on the principles of the ICC.
