On February 4, 2025, a comment of Professor Maiko Ichihara of the Graduate School of Law was quoted in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun article, “The Approaching Footsteps of Personal Worship: Surviving in the Era of ‘Narrative Competition’.” This article discusses the future of Japan in the context of the global rise of personal worship and propaganda, drawing on examples from pre-World War II Japan and the United States under the Trump administration. Professor Ichihara pointed out that the weakening and revitalization of democracy both occur in an avalanche-like manner and emphasized the importance of spreading positive narratives about democracy.
