On May 29, 2025, an article titled “Perder la hegemonía en el Pacífico (Losing Hegemony in the Pacific)” authored by Ms. Hanig Nuñez Sasha, a doctoral student at the Graduate School of Law, was published by Clarín. This article examines how the Trump administration’s foreign policy—marked by isolationist rhetoric, conditional defense commitments, and economic pressure on allies—has undermined U.S. credibility in the Asia-Pacific and opened strategic space for China to expand its influence. Ms. Hannig argues that while Trump seeks to contain Beijing, his confrontational and unpredictable approach risks alienating allies, destabilizing regional security, and ultimately accelerating the erosion of U.S. dominance in the Pacific, with Taiwan’s fate emerging as a critical fault line.
