In December 2024, Professor Hitomi Takemura (Graduate School of Law,) contributed “Chapters 9: International Law and the Individual” and “Chapter 16: Armed Conflict” to the first edition of International Law, edited by Nobuyuki Kato, Hiroyuki Banzai, and Takuhei Yamada. This book is designed as a comprehensive introductory text for undergraduate students who are new to international law, providing an overview of its various branches. Chapter 9 focuses on the relationship between international law and individuals, addressing topics such as nationality, the legal status of foreigners, and the prosecution of international crimes. Chapter 16 centers on armed conflict, covering its definition and application, the regulation of means and methods of warfare, the protection of victims, implementation of the law of armed conflict, neutrality, and issues of arms control and disarmament.
