About the speaker:

Janet Martha Blatny is Director of the Total Defence Division at the Norwegian Defense Research Establishment (FFI). She holds a PhD degree in biotechnology from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She has extensive scientific and technological experience with national defense and security, covering resilience, civil-military collaboration, foreign information manipulation and interference, and cognitive warfare. She specializes in CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear threats) and biotechnology.

Janet Martha Blatny joined FFI in 2003 and served as a scientist and research manager prior to her present position as research director as of 2014. She has previously worked as a scientist and postdoc at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU). She has coordinated and chaired several international research projects, mostly within EDA, EU, and NATO. Blatny has been Vice Chair (2019–2021) and Chair (2021–2023) of the NATO Science Technology Organization Human Factors and Medicine Panel. She attended the Senior Executive Course at the Norwegian Defence University College in 2009 and the NATO Defense College Senior Course in 2024.
