On January, 2025, “Strengthening the Powers of the European Parliament and the Politicisation of the European Commission-with a Focus on the Participation of European Commissioners in the European Parliament Elections” authored by Professor Yumiko Nakanishi (Graduate School of Law) was published in Review of European Law (Vol.16). This paper covers and analyzes the Code of Conduct for Commissioners and the Commission’s Guidelines. Professor Nakanishi argues that the control over the Commission by strengthening the power of the European Parliament raises the democratic legitimacy of the Commission, which in turn enables the politicisation of the Commission.
