On May 28, 2025, the Institute for Global Governance Research (GGR) at Hitotsubashi University hosted the Milk Tea Alliance (MTA) Japan Embassy Roundtable. The event brought together activists, researchers, journalists, and artists residing in Japan who are members of the MTA Japan. These participants came from diverse backgrounds, including Japan, China, Hong Kong, Myanmar, and Cambodia. Officials from Western embassies in Japan also attended. The participants shared their human rights situations in their home countries and described their activities to embassy officials, as well as potential forms of support and cooperation from the embassies. The discussion focused in particular on transnational repression.
