On January, 2025, “(Editorial Comment) The Competence of the European Parliament in the Approval of Commissioners” authored by Professor Yumiko Nakanishi (Graduate School of Law) was published in Review of European Law (Vol.16). This paper covers and analyzes the Code of Conduct for Commissioners and the Commission’s Guidelines. Professor Nakanishi argues that the control over the Commission by strengthening the power of the European Parliament raises the democratic legitimacy of the Commission, which in turn enables the politicization of the Commission.
