In November 2024, “The role of investigation and prosecutors,” contributed by Professor Takemura Hitomi (Graduate School of Law, Hitotsubashi University), was published in International Criminal Court: Judging the Most Serious International Crimes, 3rd edition. This book, edited by Specially Appointed Professor Kuniko Ozaki (Chuo University) and Professor Keiko Ko (Nanzan University), provides a comprehensive analysis of the International Criminal Court. In this chapter, Professor Takemura provides an in-depth analysis of the role of the Office of the Prosecutor and prosecutors at the International Criminal Court, the appointment, recusal, and disqualification of prosecutors, preliminary examinations, and the initiation of investigations.
