Professor Yumiko Nakanishi (Graduate School of Law, Hitotsubashi University) has contributed to the “European Studies Project” of the 21st Century Policy Research Institute, which has published EU Policy Toward China: A View from the EU. In Chapter 5, which is titled “The EU’s Legal Response to China I: Foreign Policy,” Professor Nakanishi discusses the EU’s response to China, focusing on trade and investment between the two entities. The chapter examines three key issues: 1) the suspension of the EU-China Comprehensive Investment Agreement; 2) foreign investment screening measures; and 3) measures in response to economic coercion, discussing proposed revisions, challenges, and evaluations.
