About the speaker:

Sara De Vido is full professor of international law at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice Italy, where she teaches international and EU law, with a focus on women’s rights and equality. She is delegate of the Rector for gender equality and in charge of many initiatives at her university to promote non-discrimination and inclusion. She has extensively written on international human rights law, in particular on preventing and combating violence against women. She co-directed the first Commentary to the Council of Europe Istanbul Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Elgar, 2023). She is principal investigator of the Project (NextGenerationEU) Gendering international legal responses to chronic emergencies, and of a Jean Monnet Module on non-human animal law. She has recently published the report EU Law in light of the Istanbul Convention: legal implications after the accession, Luxembourg Publications Office, 2025, and she serves as legal expert for the EU network on preventing gender-based violence and domestic violence established by the European Commission (2023-ongoing).
